As a premier packaging and crating company that ships to locations worldwide, MSS Precision Crating must adhere to a stringent set of international shipping regulations and standards, including ISPM-15 certified crating standards.
ISPM, or International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures, were created to oversee implementation of the IPPC (International Plant Protection Convention), a treaty intended to prevent and control the introduction and spread of plant and plant product pests. ISPM specifically contains guidelines for regulating wood packaging material in international trade. These guidelines are designed to reduce the risk of introduction and spread of quarantine pests associated with the movement in international trade of wood packaging material made from raw wood.
For clients that plan on shipping products worldwide utilizing wooden crates, it is imperative to use a company that adheres to ISPM crating standards. MSS is a member of the Northeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association (NELMA), a local governing body that serves as the leading agency for export wood packaging certification, and as the marketing voice for the wood products industry in the Northeast. Through its Wood Packaging Inspection Program, NELMA provides extensive inspection services to companies that require ISPM certification, verification and stamping of wood packaging used in export shipments.
NELMA inspectors routinely visit MSS headquarters in PA to inspect lumber and paperwork, certifying that all lumber comes from mills that properly treat wood for pests.
MSS Precision Crating includes an ISPM 15 stamp on all of their wooden crates that are internationally shipped. Clients can rest easy knowing that their goods will not only safely arrive at their final destination, but will also support the safekeeping of local ecosystems worldwide.
