MSS is Honored With a Very Special Project for the Papal Visit

October 29, 2015

When the Pope visited Philadelphia last month, he spoke from the original lectern that Abraham Lincoln used during his Gettysburg Address. MSS was selected to safely pack and transport this original lectern from its home at the Union League to Independence Mall for the Pope’s address.

MSS executed with white glove service from start to finish. The crate was designed using museum quality materials and techniques to eliminate the effects of vibration while traveling the rough city streets. The foam lining used was a 4” soft application. Once the Lectern was placed inside the crate, all cavities were filled with same lining, which completely immobilized this historical treasure during transit. The Lectern itself remained in its upright standing position throughout the journey. Finally, the US Park Service escorted the MSS crew from the Union League to Independence Mall where the Lectern was uncrated and staged in anticipation of the Pope’s arrival. It goes without saying, it was quite an honor to perform our services for such a monumental occasion, particularly right here at home in Philadelphia.
