As a premier packaging and crating company that ships to locations worldwide, MSS Precision Crating must adhere to a stringent set of international shipping regulations and standards, including ISPM-15 certified crating standards.
ISPM, or International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures, were created to oversee implementation of the IPPC (International Plant Protection Convention), a treaty intended to prevent and control the introduction and spread of quarantine pests associated with plant and plant products associated with wood packaging material made from raw wood used in international trade. When you seen an IPPC stamped crates it identifies the wood crate as one created with lumber that was heat treated or fumigated with methyl bromide.
MSS is a member of the Northeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association (NELMA), a local governing body that serves as the leading agency for export wood packaging certification, and as the marketing voice for the wood products industry in the Northeast Corridor of the United States, including VA, MD, DE, PA, NJ, NY, CT, RI, MA, NH, and ME. Our IPPC ISPM certification comes from the NELMA’s Wood Packaging Inspection Program. The MSS headquarters in Pennsylvania is routinely visited by NELMA inspectors and they complete an extensive inspection to verify the export shipping materials used to create pallets, skids, crates, etc. come from mills that properly treat wood for pests.
For clients that plan on shipping products worldwide utilizing custom wood crates, it is imperative to use a company that adheres to IPPC and ISPM packaging standards. MSS Precision Crating uses ISPM 15 certified wood crates for all jobs that require international commercial crating and packaging. Clients can rest easy knowing that their goods will not only safely arrive at their final destination, but will also support the safekeeping of local ecosystems worldwide.
