September was Hunger Action Month, a month where people all over the country stand together to fight hunger by spreading the word and taking action. This year has brought the need to help into clear focus. Before COVID-19 hit, 37 million Americans were already facing daily hunger, and estimates say 17.1 million more people will experience food insecurity during the pandemic. Experts agree that the effects of COVID-19 will require a long-term response, and our friends at Move For Hunger and its network are determined to see it through. Food banks, pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters are on the front lines, helping our most vulnerable populations every day.
Every contribution counts and we wanted to join Move for Hunger to do our small part. Throughout the month our team members banded together to host both a food drive and a virtual fundraiser. For the food drive, those working in the office were able to drop off their physical donations while those working remotely had the chance to make contactless drop offs after work hours. For our virtual event, we MOVED to fight hunger, one step at a time. Our employees made donations to support Move for Hunger’s COVID-19 relief efforts and submitted photos to show off how they’re staying active as well!
By month’s end, we raised $630 (surpassing our $500 goal!) for Move for Hunger, which provides a whopping 1,450 meals! And we collected 356 pounds of food and much-needed items for our local food pantry, Manna on Main Street; that translates to 178 meals! In total, we provided 1,628 meals for those in need.
Thank you to Move for Hunger for leading by example, educating us, supporting our efforts, and motivating us to make a difference!
