Tim Hughes
CEO
Tim Hughes started Movers Specialty Service in 1978 out of his one-bedroom apartment. He has built his life around developing relationships, not only with his nationwide client base, but also by actively supporting his employees and the community. Through his entrepreneurial spirit and purposeful focus on building this business, MSS has grown to become a leader in the relocation industry, known for innovation and exceptional customer service. Tim believes his employees are the heart of the business and has always concentrated on taking their best interests into consideration, resulting in our designation as a Philadelphia Top Workplace for 12 years in a row. He has demonstrated his passion for serving the community through his active involvement with and donations to children’s special needs and educational establishments, in addition to his environmental advocacy efforts.
Prior to starting MSS, Tim worked as a dispatcher for a nationwide van line where he developed his concept of a one-stop shop – a single tradesman who possessed all the necessary skills needed to serve the requirements of a relocating family. He also started and owned a variety of other businesses including fine wood restoration, off-site storage, and software.
Tim holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Saint Francis University. He has been a member of a Vistage CE group, the first that was formed in Philadelphia, since 2000. He has also served on boards and advisory councils, including the AMSA Board of Directors and Worldwide ERC’s US Advisory Council. He currently serves on the Board of Directors at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the Union League of Philadelphia. Outside of work, Tim enjoys golfing, traveling with his wife, and trying to keep up with his three energetic grandchildren and his dog, Atlas.
