Our Story

Our Approach

Our Standards

We take our position as an industry leader very seriously and are constantly working to remain worthy of that position. We collect data and feedback through Customer Surveys and, while we are proud to have earned a 98% satisfaction rate, we remain flexible and adaptable when we are required to make adjustments. We consistently seek new ways to be better and to do better.

Training Program

Every employee is required to complete a custom-designed curriculum called MSS University, which provides education on all things MSS for both new and current employees. Our technicians are also required to attend MSS Tech University as well as in-house training at our headquarters (complete with live service demonstrations on working appliances, grandfather clocks, and much more).

Skilled Technicians

We continually challenge our technicians through a unique, proprietary quality management system called SEMI (Supplier Evaluation Metrics Information). MSS is also the only service company to employ a full time Field Network Manager who travels the country auditing, training, and certifying our subcontractors.

It’s obvious that you have hand-picked members of your team to support your business. Their performance reflects the commitment and loyalty they have to MSS and how strongly they believe in your goals.

Award Recognition

MSS is proud of the recognition we have earned over the years from our customers and industry peers. In 2009, we were the first recipient of the AMSA Supplier of the Year Summit Award, voted for by the top movers in the country. We were honored with this prestigious award once again in 2014. We have also been recognized as the "Industry's Innovator" by the largest relocation management company in the world. Locally, we have been voted as one of the Philadelphia Top Workplaces for eight years in a row.

Timothy P. Hughes

Tim Hughes started Movers Specialty Service in 1978 out of his one-bedroom apartment. He has built his life on developing relationships, not only with his nationwide client base, but also by actively supporting his employees and the community. Through his entrepreneurial spirit and purposeful focus on building this business, MSS has grown to become a leader in the relocation industry, known for innovation and exceptional customer service. Tim believes his employees are the heart of the business and has always concentrated on taking their best interests into consideration, resulting in our designation as a Philadelphia Top Workplace for 11 years in a row. He has demonstrated his passion for serving the community through his active involvement with and donations to children’s special needs and educational establishments, in addition to his environmental advocacy efforts.

Prior to starting MSS, Tim worked as a dispatcher for a nationwide van line where he developed his concept of a one-stop shop – a single tradesman who possessed all the necessary skills needed to serve the requirements of a relocating family. He also started and owned a variety of other businesses including fine wood restoration, off-site storage and software.

Tim holds a BS in Business Management from Saint Francis University. He has also served on several boards and advisory councils, including the AMSA Board of Directors and Worldwide ERC’s US Advisory Council.

Today, Tim is accountable for developing and implementing our corporate and organizational strategy across the three divisions of MSS, ensuring that daily business operations are consistent with the strategy and vision for the company.
