Recently, we had the privilege of designing a specialized shipping solution for a leading company in the automation industry. A global leader, they’re renowned for advancements in lab automation, process control, factory automation, and supply chain management, utilizing cutting-edge technology and comprehensive services. Hence, they required a custom crate for shipping a process flow device overseas.

The custom crate’s material had to comply with ISPM 15 regulations to ensure the wood packaging was free of quarantine pests, a critical requirement for international shipments. Although the custom crate was assembled with drills, simple, tool-free packing and unpacking was required for the client’s convenience.

Planning a Custom Crate Designed for Accessibility, Safety, and Compliance

• Tool-Free Access: We incorporated specialized latches and a removable ramp access door for tool-free packing and unpacking.
• Custom Internal Fitments: To ensure the device’s safety and stability, we installed custom-sized drawers, “glove fit” foam-lined compartments, and support blocking on a shock mount deck.
• ISPM 15 Compliance: The crate was constructed with wood that met the international standards for pest-free shipping materials.

Protective Features: Beyond The Basics

We secured a glass vessel in a 2” drawer lined with polyurethane foam. Our team selected Ethafoam for its durability and ability to be customized for shape and firmness. It is also known for its resilient, flexible, and shock-absorbent properties. Additionally, we set a sensitive calibrated scale into another 2” Ethafoam-lined drawer. Finally, to ensure protection against impacts and vibrations during transit, we encased an agitator and a computer tower in Ethafoam, safeguarding these crucial components throughout their journey.
