PALLETIZING AND SKIDDING

A complete crating solution is not always the best or most practical approach, particularly if the item in question must be prepped for equipment handling. We offer heavy duty skidding services, using properly sized timbers and hardware to enable easy forklift access. In addition to the logistical benefits, this option can yield considerable cost savings when compared to complete crating. 

VAPOR BARRIER & WEATHER SHIELD

Crating alone may not provide sufficient protection for items transported overseas as salt air and humidity can wreak havoc on exposed metal and sensitive electronics.

Vapor Barrier

In order to minimize the risk of corrosion, our specialists utilize a technique to vacuum seal the item using a Mylar bag (or poly-foil bag) with appropriate levels of moisture-absorbing materials (i.e. desiccant). MSS fabricates and installs these custom Mylar bags which provide additional protection from the elements.  

Weather Shield

Our experts also fabricate and install weather shield shrink wrap to maintain a complete form-fitted barrier from all the elements. The wrap’s UV inhibitor minimizes fading and damage from the sun. 

PUBLIC AND PRIVATE ART/COLLECTIBLES

Our experts are trained to handle all mediums of artwork. We utilize industry-specific packing materials to gently secure and protect fragile and valuable works of art, from private residential settings to commercial or public ones. Examples of our service offerings include paintings, sculptures, mosaics, sketches, tapestries, and statues.

In addition to high value artwork and paintings, MSS provides Packaging Services for family heirlooms that require protection during transport or while in storage. Our precision craftsmanship ensures a perfect fit, with clean, secure crates custom built either on-site at a residence or business or at our warehouse prior to arrival. IPPC–stamped for export according to ISPM15 regulations, our crates are properly certified for international shipping. 

ASTM & MIL-SPEC CRATING

Our crating specialists are seasoned professionals when it comes to building government and military crate designs. Send us your ASTM or Mil Spec information and we will custom build crates and pallets to meet exact specifications.

ASTM

American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM International) standards are defined by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). ASTM develops the most current standards for the Transport Packaging industry including packaging materials and packing methods for domestic and international shipments. 

Mil-Spec

Mil-Spec, or ‘military specifications,’ crating is used to describe the physical and/or operational characteristics of a product that ensure it meets particular requirements. Many Mil-Spec crates cover federal requirements for shipping crates, boxes, and containers used for domestic and overseas shipping of various products, materials, and supplies.  

CONTAINER LOADING, BLOCKING, AND BRACING

With ocean shipping, containerized goods are subject to the same forces of pitch and yaw to which the ocean-going vessel is exposed. The higher a container sits on the vessel deck, the more vulnerable it is in stormy seas. Our expert blocking and bracing methods reduce the risk of cargo damage during transit. Whether it be machinery, vehicles, electronics, or any other non-bulk loads that require shipment, our crews have the expertise to prepare and protect the items for load, lash, block, and brace.  

RIGGING

Oversized loads and heavy equipment often require Rigging Services to safely and efficiently lift, move and transport, position, and pull using hoists and pulleys. Our Rigging specialists have the knowledge and experience to handle a variety of heavy machinery, household goods items (statues, etc.), equipment, and other cumbersome items.

FOAM FABRICATION

Custom foam packaging and cushioning solutions for aviation, medical and electronics applications including custom foam trappings, foam lined cases, crates, and skids, design of custom molded cushions, and ISTA testing.
